Atlantis Theatre is dedicated to the performance of plays from classic and contemporary world theatre, along with new theatrical works.  We are inspired in part by the work of Antonin Artaud and his Theatre of Cruelty.  Our goal is to provide an enriching and complex theatrical experience challenging all performance conventions.  We believe that the tragic form is nourishing to the human psyche and that to witness human pain is a thing of beauty.

Recorded in various sources, including Plato’s Critias and Helena Petrovna Blavatsky’s “The Secret Doctrine”, Atlantis was understood as being the perfect society, a mythological Utopia submerged beneath the ocean in a single cataclysmic day.  Like the legendary Teutonic island of Ultima Thule located at the top of the world, Atlantis represents the unobtainable Utopian longing of the human race.  After it’s namesake, Atlantis Theatre is dedicated to all tragic characters who push beyond all temperance and restriction in an attempt to achieve their unobtainable dreams.
